Fall Style Trends: Dresses

This time of year- when the weather’s getting colder and my focus is less on being cute and more on being warm and comfortable- I tend to gravitate towards dresses because they lend themselves to cozy layering and require very little coordination or thought. Dresses this season run the gamut from the slinky slips of last year to oversized midi styles. I am into all of them, so I’ve been very busy carefully picking out my favorites of each so that I can have the most bomb wardrobe. Here are my top favorite trends  for the cold weather! My first favorite of the season is this oversized tunic from Free People. It was certainly a splurge, but it’s as cozy and adorable as it looks. It has a loose rounded collar, sort of a stiffer cowl neck, and the relaxed fit is perfect for layering without loosing your figure. It works over jeans or leggings, but looks fantastic worn as a mini dress  with a killer pair of thigh high boots. This tunic feels luxurious and special, and so far has been one of my favorite new additions. This body con dress from H&M is a vey form fitting, thick knit in a delicate dusty rose color. But what makes this dress just a little more edgy are the shoulder cutouts, which have been cropping up everywhere since the end of the summer. The fit of this dress has plenty of sex appeal, but the hint of bare skin is enticing without being vulgar. I LOVE the idea of a slip dress layered over a turtleneck, and it’s one of my favorite trends of the fall. I’ve been waiting for the perfect slip, and I found this silver one at H&M for pretty cheap. It fits just like a slip should, just barely skimming your body. This combination is super current, and the silver with the pale blue is feminine and understated. Another trend that has carried over from last year is Victorian-inspired lace. This black swing dress from H&M totally hit the mark for me. It’s pretty and just a little witchy. The sleeves are sheer and delicate, but the color keeps it from being too saccharine sweet. Velvet is everything this season, and this is no exception. It’s a simple cut that barely hugs the body, and a mock neck for a little added coziness. The color is a rich, dark gray-toned blue that I can’t get enough of. I bought this from Primark, and the quality isn’t ideal, but for a dress that I’ll probably retire after the holiday season, I’m totally satisfied. This slip dress from Forever 21 is a gorgeous taupe that I can’t seem to stop buying this fall. It’s a midi length, but what makes this dress special is the subtle neckline- square across the collarbone with thin spaghetti straps. This dress has amazing quality, with just a little stretch and a thin lining that adds surprising warmth without bulk. A long, baggy, turtleneck dress is ideal for a chic winter wardrobe. I’m wearing this dress as I write, thrown over a long sleeve t-shirt and leggings, but you’d never know because the oversized fit conceals any layers underneath. With tall boots, this camel colored dress just looks so glamorous, but doesn’t compromise an ounce of comfort.

These are just a few of my favorite on-trend pieces at the moment. I have plenty more where that came from, so keep an eye out for some more fabulous clothes later this week!
